More than 111 years after the Titanic disaster, several memorabilia from the sunken passenger liner have been auctioned off. What is striking: the list price has risen to £83,000 (€95,000).
The ticket for first class passengers suffered severe water damage. However, that couldn’t stop an anonymous bidder at auction house Henry Aldrigde & Son. It is said to be the only remaining example of the boat disaster that occurred on April 11, 1912. On the fatal day, oysters, lamb and wild duck were on the menu.
A lot of money was also offered for other Titanic pieces. For example, a blanket, possibly worn by a survivor on a lifeboat, came under the hammer for £76,000 (more than €86,000).
The Titanic departed Southampton for New York on April 10, 1912, with more than 2,200 passengers on board. A few days later, the “unsinkable” ship struck an iceberg and sank. More than 1,500 passengers did not survive the disaster.
