An evening entitled Prostate Cancer

Monday, November 20, 2023 at 7:30 pm Until 9:30 p.m

Nijmegen – CWZ will organize a theme evening on prostate cancer in cooperation with the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Marikenhuis on Monday 20 November. The meeting takes place at the Marikenhuis at Slotemaker de Bruïnweg 163 in Nijmegen from 7:30pm to 9:30pm. free entry. Register via www.marikenhuis.nl. There is room for questions that you can also ask in advance when registering.

This evening there will be a special interest in timely detection, current diagnosis and also what is currently (and perhaps in the future) possible for metastatic prostate cancer. Speakers include an experienced expert (on living with metastatic prostate cancer); Urology specialist nurse Joost de Page (on detecting prostate cancer, investigating suspicions and the new biopsy technique) and oncologist Marieke Berends (on current treatment for metastatic prostate cancer. What does the future hold?).

In 2022, prostate cancer was diagnosed 14,649 times; That is 38 men per day. This number increases every year. Of these men, 10% are under 60 years of age. When diagnosed, the cancer has already spread in 1 in 5 men. However, cancer usually causes few complaints at the time. More than 3,000 men die from prostate cancer every year. So there is a lot of talk about population screening and research. Fortunately, a curative treatment can often be established, or even in the case of metastases, men can continue to live for some time with new treatment methods and with a reasonable quality of life.
