Israeli forces bulldozed at least six cemeteries in the northern Gaza Strip in recent weeks. The New York Times wrote this based on satellite images. The American newspaper confirms that the deliberate destruction of religious places can be considered a war crime.

In the Shujaiya area of Gaza City, among other places, where heavy fighting has taken place in recent days, Israeli forces destroyed part of a cemetery earlier this month to set up a temporary military site.

A satellite image taken last Sunday shows Israeli armored vehicles in part of the cemetery that was still intact a few days ago. According to the New York Times, the army destroyed the graves using a bulldozer.

War crime

The forces damaged cemeteries not only in Shujaiya, but also in other neighborhoods and cities. The Sheikh Ajlin neighborhood in Gaza City and the northern cities of Jabalia, Beit Hanoun, and Beit Lahia were also affected.

The Israeli army has not yet responded to these accusations. The New York Times confirms that the intentional destruction of religious sites without military necessity can be considered a war crime under international law.
