Standard finished 2024 with a point after a poor performance against STVV. After that, coach Karl Hofkens hinted at some reinforcements during the winter Mercato. “We must surround our young talents with maturity,” Hofkens told Eleven DAZN.
The fact that Standard was able to score a point against STVV at all was in itself a belated Christmas present. Five minutes from time, Roche were still 0-1 up. Moreover, the home team did not immediately show much to warrant a draw.
“If you're still down 5 minutes from the end and get another point, that's definitely a good point,” Hofkens believes. “So I am satisfied with the mentality we showed and the way we continued to fight,” he added.
The Standard coach was not satisfied with the game he had. “It was clear that there was not enough quality. In the zone of truth, we simply have to do better.”
Hofkins hopes that these defects will be resolved in the winter Mercato. “More quality is needed,” Hofkens said. “So I am very happy that the transfer ban has been lifted. This is very positive.”
“We have a lot of young talent, but we have to surround them with experienced players who offer maturity and can offer something extra. We have to guide our youngsters in a good way. These boys really have quality. The future looks bright.” “Here I am.” I'm 100 percent sure.
