Two volcanoes erupted in Indonesia on Sunday. The ash was thrown more than a kilometer into the air.

The Marabi volcano erupted again on the island of Sumatra on Sunday morning. More than 150 people were evacuated from surrounding villages. The volcano was very active for several weeks, then an eruption occurred on Sunday at 6:21 a.m. local time, with ash reaching a height of more than a kilometer.

At about 2,900 metres, Marapi is one of the most active volcanoes in Sumatra. An eruption in early December killed 24 hikers.

On the Indonesian island of Flores, located in eastern Indonesia, an eruption of the Ljutopi Laki Laki volcano also occurred on Sunday. Here the ash reached a height of one kilometer. More than 5,400 people have been evacuated from villages at the foot of the volcano in recent days.

Nearly 130 volcanoes are active across Indonesia. The island nation is located on the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for seismic tremors.
