A group of Russian-backed hackers has hacked Microsoft. The work email accounts of “certain senior company officials” and “a small number of other employees” were compromised.
Microsoft said in a statement on Friday evening that hackers stole emails and documents. According to the tech giant, Midnight Blizzard is behind the robbery. According to American and British intelligence services, this movement is linked to Russian intelligence.
Microsoft discovered the hack more than a week ago and is currently modifying old systems and notifying the hacked employees. Employees who deal with cybersecurity and legal issues have also fallen victim. Microsoft customers were not hacked, and their AI systems were not affected.
Midnight Blizzard is also known as Nobelium. According to Microsoft, the group was also behind the SolarWinds hack in 2020. The company, along with the European Parliament and British and US government agencies such as the Nuclear Weapons Agency, were then hacked by that group.
