The government could remove the barbed wire from the Texas border

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that U.S. Border Patrol agents can cut or move fences in Texas near the Mexican border. The court thus agrees with President Biden's government, which sought to allow the state of Texas to do this, even though it was wrong.

The White House and Texas have been at loggerheads for some time over the security of the US-Mexico border. The Supreme Court's ruling concerns a 30-mile (46-kilometer) stretch of barbed wire along the Rio Grande border river.

Five of the nine justices accepted Biden's request: three justices considered liberals, Chief Justice John Roberts, known as a conservative, and Amy Coney Barrett.

Border guards, led by the national government, are already allowed to remove barbed wire in extreme emergencies (for example if someone is drowning). But by the judgments of the lower courts, this was not allowed in any other case.

It would allow the Border Patrol to operate on land owned by the state of Texas or owned by Texas residents. The Supreme Court ruling gives Border Patrol agents more leeway to cut or move wires in certain locations, making it easier to reach people in need.

According to Greg Abbott, the Republican governor of Texas, President Biden's administration is doing too little to deport immigrants. Among other things, Abbott installed a 300-meter-long barrier on the Rio Grande that included a line of orange buoys. A legal dispute is also ongoing between the state of Texas and the Biden administration in this regard.
