RoyaltyIf Prince Harry (39) actually works as an official American citizen, he will have to take into account that he will lose his royal titles. Many media outlets in Britain and the United States have pointed out that official rules require immigrants to the United States to renounce “hereditary titles or titles of nobility in a foreign state.”
King Charles' youngest son discussed the possibility of applying for a U.S. passport in an interview with “Good Morning America” on Friday. “American citizenship was definitely a thought that crossed my mind,” he said. However, it is not clear whether Harry is aware of the American rules. His spokesman declined to comment.
Earl of Dumbarton
As well as being Duke of Sussex, the Prince is Earl of Dumbarton and Baron Kilkeel. Harry received these titles in May 2018 after marrying his wife Meghan. In 2020, the Prince bid farewell to his title of Royal Highness. He made the deal with Queen Elizabeth after the prince announced he was taking a step back within the royal family. He also immigrated to America with his family that year.
However, attorney James L., who has worked on many immigration cases in the past. Leonard Jr. says in “Page Six” that Harry may be granted an exception. He says there has never been a similar case and it could become a “unique problem” for the US legal system. “I can't think of any other royals who have applied for US citizenship,” he said. “I can't imagine that there was such a scenario, and I think it raises a lot of interesting questions.”
