It took a while, but it will come next Wednesday. Then Peter Sagan made his debut with Pierre Paget. The 34-year-old Slovakian is in selection for the continental squad for the Tour of Hungary (May 8-12).
Sagan ended his career at the highest level on the road at the end of last year, but can still be found regularly on the mountain bike. His big goal is to qualify for the next Olympic Games. In the lead-up, he was also supposed to drive several road races for Slovenian team Pierre Paget from March, but in February problems with the driver's heart came to light.
Sagan subsequently underwent cardiac ablation, a treatment used for serious heart disorders. The three-time world champion was then allowed to resume training, but it did not go smoothly. During a training flight in Marseille, the arrhythmia flared up again, after which new heart surgery proved necessary. He has been back on his bike since the beginning of April.
Next week we will see Sagan back in racing. At the Hungary tour, he will meet some other big names, including Mark Cavendish and Dylan Groenewegen. It is not yet known what Sagan's additional program will look like.
