Under the leadership of President Joe Biden, the United States is strongly committed to strategic partnerships and alliances. This is also happening in Asia to limit China’s power and influence in the region. China condemns this tactic. The United States is accused of trying to destabilize the region. The country regularly talks about an “Asian NATO.”
Biden had previously indicated that alliances with Asian countries are “iron strong.” He even described the friendship with Japan as “unbreakable.” However, he sparked a small diplomatic storm with his latest comment.
During his speech to raise more money for his campaign, the president talked about immigration. Biden indicated that the upcoming elections will be about “freedom, America, and democracy.”
“Why? Because we welcome immigrants,” Biden explained. “Think about it. Why is the Chinese economy stagnating? Why is Japan having such hard times? Or Russia? Or India? Because they are xenophobic. They don’t want immigrants.”
The White House was quick to qualify the comments. “Our allies know that President Biden values their friendship and cooperation,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said. “They understand how important he values the idea of alliances and partnerships.”
