Each year, Zomerspektakel selects one or more charities to donate a percentage of the festival’s proceeds. We always try to support local projects. This year the choice fell on a special cause: the ALS Foundation.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), the full name of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a brutal disease that attacks motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. The result is a gradual loss of muscle function, eventually leading to complete paralysis and often fatal complications. After the first symptoms appear, the average life expectancy for people with ALS is only 3 to 5 years.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Foundation
This small organization works tirelessly to achieve a world free of ALS, PSMA, and PLS. Their mission is clear: to mobilize people and resources to raise as much money as possible for scientific research into the causes and treatments of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and related diseases. In addition, the Foundation also funds projects aimed at improving the quality of care and life for patients and their loved ones.
One of the reasons Summer Spectacle chose the ALS Foundation is the recent progress in technological developments. These developments have raised hopes of major progress in treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). However, to translate this progress into tangible results, funding is essential. That’s why Zomerspektakel has chosen to provide the support the ALS Foundation needs this year to continue its important work.
Parkinson’s Café and Teus de Cruijff Boxing School
Last year, the organization chose to support not one but two causes; Both are related to Parkinson’s disease. One of those charities was Alvin aan den Rijn’s Parkinson’s Café. In addition, Summer Spectacle presented a check to Teus de Kruyf boxing school for their “Parkinson Box” program.
