The spring of 2024 is the spring of pop stars, because after Beyoncé, Taylor Swift and Dua Lipa, Billie Eilish (22 years old) will also release new music. Creative support was once again provided by brother Finneas (26), both during songwriting and in the role of producer of “Hit me hard and soft”.
“We started it in the fall of 2022, but we didn’t finish the first song until the end of 2022: the opening track ‘Skinny.’ And right after that we finished Barbie’s song ‘What Was I Made For?’” “It was all written,” Eilish said after the release. By May 2023.”
The 10 songs total over 43 minutes of music, which Eilish herself describes as her most daring and personal work to date. She wants to hit people “hard and soft.”
Striking: Eilish explicitly invites everyone to listen to the entire album in the order of the tracklist, as she builds a story through the songs. It’s unusual in the age of Spotify where people switch between songs and genres and only catchy clips of songs go viral on TikTok. That’s why Eilish hasn’t released a single at the moment: she doesn’t want to “favorite songs or show them out of context.”
