No Kylian Mbappe at the Paris Olympics: “Real Madrid was clear”

Kylian Mbappe is not at the games in his country.

The French star will soon be introduced as Real Madrid’s new star. But this stands as an obstacle to his participation in the Olympic Games in Paris.

Why? Mbappe’s future club has previously indicated that it does not want to release its players for health reasons.

“Real Madrid was very clear about the Olympic Games,” French national team coach Thierry Henry said during the press conference after announcing the selection of the French national team.

“The last time I got this many rejections was in high school. There weren’t even any negotiations,” he was clearly unhappy with the situation.

The French national coach still keeps the door slightly open for Mbappe. “We don’t know what could happen until July 3,” he added. “The door is closed to anyone.”

Currently, Henry has already selected players over the age of 23 with Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace) and Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon), but the French national team coach confirmed that he will add a third player over this age. Henry has until July 3 to submit his final list of 22 players.

The extremely fast Mbappe is among Didier Deschamps’ selection for the European Championship in Germany. Deschamps also indicated last March that it would be “very difficult” for Mbappe to participate in the Games after the European Championship.

Just like Atletico Madrid with Antoine Griezmann, Paris Saint-Germain will also not want to part with their players Warren-Zaire Emery and Bradley Barkula. The pair, who are also part of the European Championship selection, have been selected by Henry for the Games, although that could still change. Of the 25 players, three have yet to withdraw.
