A Moroccan was sentenced to 14 years in prison for killing his daughters

Naima Belalem, a former accountant, was convicted of premeditated murder. She denied the murders and claimed that she had entrusted her two daughters to a Moroccan couple at a gas station on a Spanish highway. The court did not believe her and ruled that there was conclusive evidence that she had killed the girls.

The girls’ father, who is divorced from Baalam and had not seen his daughters for several years when they disappeared, expressed his disappointment with the ruling. He said: “We have conviction, but it is not a victory because we did not get the answers we expected.”

The public prosecutor had asked for a prison sentence of 12 to 13 years. She said that Naima Belalem never admitted what she did and that she convinced herself that her daughters were still alive.

The case has attracted a lot of attention in France and Morocco. The disappearance of the two disabled girls caused great concern, and the search for them continued for years. The court hopes that Naima Belalem’s conviction will provide a form of closure for the family.
