AA Gent starts a new era this season. Ivan de Wit, Michel Luaje and Hein Vanhaysbrouck departed after many years, leaving responsibility to owner Sam Barrow, technical director Arnar Vidarsson and coach Wouter Franken. The latter was on the sidelines for the first time on Saturday.
After all, Vrancken made his unofficial debut as coach of Ghent, as the Buffaloes played his first coaching match. They competed against their neighbor KFC Merelbeke who plays in the second national team. It was an easy win for the visitors.
AA Gent took a loss in the first match
In the first half, Francken assembled a strong team with Watanabe, De Sart and Kums, but two young strikers dominated the team. After all, it was Sordes and Fernandez Pardo who ensured the score was 0-2 midway through the first half. The Swiss was on target twice, and the young Belgian was on target every time.
Vrancken named eleven new players in the second half. They were able to increase the score only in the last quarter. Abdullah converted a cross from Lagai into the net to make the score 0-3 and a few minutes later Gandelman also scored on the rebound.
Next mission is on Friday
In the last minute, a busy Samoise managed to put the missing numbers on the scoreboard, again with the help of Lagai. This means that Ghent have made a good start in their preparation. The next task is scheduled for next Friday, when they face HO Kalken.
