amstelveen Group 7 of OBS de Pioniers in Amstelveen went into space on a rocket this week. Not on a real rocket, but through the eyes of a space explorer using 4D virtual reality (VR) glasses. It all happened in the context of SpaceBuzz, an educational program in which students learn more about space, the Earth, nature and technology.

Astronaut André Kuipers is one of the founders and ambassadors of SpaceBuzz. The rocket of the same name that the students actually took into space is a vehicle more than fifteen meters long equipped with the latest 4D virtual reality technology. The idea of SpaceBuzz is to teach children, by combining virtual reality glasses with real images and film footage from space, how fragile the Earth is and how important it is to treat the planet sparingly.

The students of Group 7 were allowed to enter the rocket in groups and were all provided with virtual reality glasses. In the chair they experienced a space flight through the eyes of an astronaut. The simulation made it look very real. This made the landing and take-off an exciting experience that they enjoyed.
