Voorburgs Dagblad | Without a Trace also had a huge success in cinemas with its new release.

The 1988 thriller Spoorloos attracted more than 10,000 visitors in just over a month. According to Eye, this makes it the most visited release of a Dutch film in over thirty years. The old film by director George Sluizer was restored by the Film Institute and put back into circulation in dozens of arthouses at the end of June. The film is also doing well in Belgium. In two weeks, Spoorloos attracted 2,500 visitors.

In the film, based on the book Het Gouden Ei by Tim Krabbé, twenty-year-old Saskia (Johanna ter Steege) is kidnapped in a parking lot along the Autoroute du Soleil. Her friend Rex is subjected to a sinister choice by the kidnapper. The only way to find out what happened to his friend is to experience it for yourself.

The thriller is often mentioned in lists of the best Dutch films of all time. The scene where Saskia is kidnapped was recently declared the second best in Dutch film history by the VARA guide. American director Stanley Kubrick, who directed The Shining, among others, described Spoorloos as the scariest film he had ever seen.
