The Kasper Schmeichel era at Anderlecht is already over. After just one year, the Danish goalkeeper, whose contract expired at the end of June, has already said goodbye to the purple and white. He announced the news himself via a message on Instagram. He wrote: “I will remember you forever.”
Last summer, Anderlecht announced their best transfer, but Kasper Schmeichel is saying goodbye to the purple and white team after just one season.
The Danish goalkeeper, who has been a sensation in the Premier League for years, arrived from Nice last season. He pushed Dupé out of goal – and initially not without some criticism – but has worked his way up to become a regular starter for the Purple & Whites.
Schmeichel eventually played 31 games in the Jupiler Pro League, keeping eight clean sheets. Last month he was also active in the European Championship as Denmark’s number one.
“I am so grateful for the time I spent here,” he wrote on Instagram. “Anderlecht is a club with incredible passion and history. I will always remember and cherish the memories and friendships.”
The question now seems to be: who will Anderlecht bring in as his replacement? For now, Colin Coosmans will take his place between the posts.
