With these cars you can fill them with cheap E85

History repeats itself. Long ago, everyday transport was obsessed with sugar cubes, and you could easily fall asleep at the wheel. If only your horse knew the way. With a little luck, you will also be able to take a nap behind the wheel after a while, and in countries like France and Sweden, cars also love sugar again. Or actually bioethanol, which can be made from sugar. Such a car costs just 80 cents in France – and with these cheap cars you can benefit from it too.

Brands like Ford and Volvo have been trying to make E85 petrol available to the masses in the Netherlands for over 15 years. The so-called Flexifuel models can run on regular Euro 95 and E85 petrol. You can’t fill up with E85 anywhere in the Netherlands right now, but you can buy Flexifuel cars for a little money on Marktplaats. That means you can fill up for just 80 cents per litre during your holiday in France.

There are 75 cars in the Netherlands that can refuel at 80 cents per litre.

If we take a quick look, we see 75 Ford and Volvo vehicles on the Marktplaats equipped with the Flexifuel drive system. Mostly, these are 1.8-litre four-cylinder engines with 125 hp or 2.0-litre engines with 145 hp. The cars were manufactured between 2006 and 2012 and include the Ford Focus, C-Max and S-Max. In Volvo, it is usually a V50 and sometimes a C30.

And because they are otherwise normal cars between 18 and 12 years old, they no longer cost the world. The cheapest one without the “read description” or “export” add-ons will cost you just €1,250. It’s a C-Max with almost 300,000 kilometers on the odometer. You can see that’s a lot of kilometers, but on the other hand, a holiday to the South of France can also be added, right? And the C-Max has plenty of space for junk.

Most cars that run on E85 are not expensive.

to Between 2500 and 3500 euros You should be able to pass a Focus or C-max with ease with some experience. There’s also a stylish Ford Focus with just 47,980 kilometres on the odometer and selling for €7,750. Volvos are a bit more expensive. The cheapest V50 costs €6,500, but prices are quickly heading towards €10,000 and beyond.

Plan a cheap vacation

Cheap holiday? Then buy a Ford with a Flexifuel engine for a little bit. E85 is hard to come by in the Netherlands and Belgium, so the first tank on your holiday will probably be your most expensive. But once you get to France, you can fill up with E85 for very little. A small side note: E85 is a little less economical than Euro 95. But it’s still a lot cheaper. Holiday over? Then the car goes on sale again and you can take a great road trip through France for a little bit.
