In 2022, a project was created by the production house BRUT, called Events dEVENTer and Kunstenlab, De Ruimte. The project was so successful that it was decided to continue it in a modified form next year. From 1 August 2024, a space of about 100 square meters on Nieuwstraat 38 in Deventer will be available for temporary work periods of 1 to 4 weeks for makers..
Deventer is a city with many creative people in all kinds of cultural disciplines: from music to dance, from theatre to visual arts. These creators are not only good for the cultural climate, but also contribute to the character and vitality of Deventer. With De Ruimte they have the opportunity to stay in the city centre of Deventer for free for about a month: work and accommodation.
Makers need space to make.
Deventer makers receive support and space through the project to work on their art, music or new works. “Makers need space to create. This seems very logical, but at a time when there is not much room for everything we want as a community, this is not self-evident,” says Mickey Königen from Konstenlab. “With De Ruimte, we contribute to creating space, to the encounter between audience and makers, to that much-needed vitality.”
outer space
The making space is about the space in which the maker moves. It can be in a shop, in a square, near a park, surrounded by deveners, audiences and tourists. That’s why De Ruimte is centrally located in the city centre, so that filmmakers and audiences can meet each other.
New Strat Deventer
De Ruimte has a location on the Nieuwstraat at its disposal. Makers can use the space at no cost, including basic facilities, public presentation, PR and marketing through De Ruimte channels and a series of podcasts with the manufacturers.
to sign up
If manufacturers are interested, they can indicate this via an “open call”. They must tell us what they want to do with the space, when they want to use the space and for how long. It is expected that temporary space will be made available for 15 to 25 manufacturers next year. They can register via the De Ruimte Deventer website.
