Netflix has a surprising number of games in development.

It’s no secret that Netflix has ambitious plans for its gaming division. The streaming service now appears to have at least 80 games in development.
In recent years, Netflix has not only produced movies, series, and documentaries, but also games. These can be found in a separate tab in the app. Subscribers who visit the games section regularly will notice that there is a constant stream of new games to play. And that won’t stop anytime soon.
During the day last shareholders meeting Netflix CEOs Greg Peters and Ted Sarandos gave more insight into the company’s latest developments. There are currently at least 80 games in development. The plan is to release a new game every month to subscribers starting this month.

A large portion of the new games fall into the interactive narrative genre. According to Peters, these are the easiest to develop. But other types of games will also appear on the platform. Peters says it’s a great way to give fans more of their favorite franchises.

“It’s the idea of taking a series and giving the superfans a place to be between seasons and even beyond, using the gaming platform to introduce new characters, new stories or new plot developments. You can do things like that now and it could become a reality next season or in a sequel to the movie.

More than just first-party games

The Netflix app doesn’t just feature games from the streaming service itself. The company also works with other publishers to bring their titles to different audiences. GTA, Sonic Mania, and Football Manager can also be played through the app.

The gaming branch is currently growing significantly, but the impact on the entire process is not yet significant. According to Peters, it is important now to change that.
