Electric Vehicle Drivers Don’t Want EVs Back Because of Holidays

The Dutch love camping. The average Dutch person spends more nights in a tent per year than the average Belgian or German, for example. That’s why many Dutch rental drivers take their vacations into account when choosing a new car. And it seems that choosing a new electric car is no longer a given, according to the Business Drivers Association.

The trade association for the camping and caravanning industry (KCI) reported earlier this year that the average Dutch person spends 1.5 nights at a campsite per year. That puts us in fifth place behind the French, Danes, Swedes and Croats. Furthermore, the Netherlands also has 151 campsites per million inhabitants, making us one of the biggest camping nations in Europe. But that would be less of a problem.

Electric car drivers think range is too limited for holidays

A study by the Business Drivers Association shows that nearly half (48 percent) of all respondents would not choose an electric car as their next business vehicle. The association believes this is “due to insufficient range for holidaying and/or travelling abroad.” Of course, these aren’t just people heading to the campsite, but it’s eye-catching.

Should you arrange that electric car from your boss and go on vacation by plane? That’s not really sustainable either. Or should you rent a car for that period? That seems expensive. Or should you go out of season so you can be sure that charging stations are free? That’s not always possible during the kids’ school holidays. You see: we don’t have the answer either.
