Liz Broekx and Hermiene Peters finished their Olympic K2 in fifth place. The Belgian rowing duo stumbled briefly at the start, leading to a small race to catch up in the A final. Their final shot wasn’t as strong as it was in the semi-final, so our compatriots can be proud of a nice fifth place.
After their last-gasp stunner in the semi-finals, they can now dream of medals of honour.
Lize Broekx and Hermiene Peters qualified for the A final with the fifth fastest time. The gold medal was certainly out of reach for New Zealand duo Lisa Carrington and Alicia Hoskin.
But that bronze medal? With a perfect race it could easily come the Belgian’s way.
The hiccups at the start soon proved to be a blot on the celebration among our compatriots. In the middle of the race, they somewhat made up for it in fifth place, well in the suit.
It was a battle against acidity in the last 250m. He had the upper hand with Broekx and Peters. They held on, but can be proud of fifth place after a great Olympics.

The final shot wasn’t as hot as the semi-final. However, Hermine Peters and Liz Brooks can be proud of their impressive fifth place. The gold goes to the New Zealand women’s outcasts, a German and Hungarian boat.

Good planning and a strong final race. The Belgians organized their race perfectly and managed to finish second with a time of 1:39″74. The smile on the face says it all: Hermine Peeters and Lise Broekx will go to the first final.

Hermine Peters also had success in K1. She qualified directly for the semi-finals in the 500m. Peters came second in her series and could compete again on Saturday. Lize Broekx managed to secure a spot in the semi-finals through to the quarter-finals.
In the K2 500m, in the double kayaking category, Liz Brooks and Hermian Peters booked a ticket to the semi-finals. Thanks to the good classification, they quickly took second place in their series.
