The United States won the women’s Olympic soccer tournament. Against another great soccer nation, Brazil, a goal before the hour mark was enough. It was the 5th Olympic gold medal for the US women’s soccer team. Since 2019 they have managed to win a major tournament.
Brazil and USA battle it out for the gold medal at the Parc des Princes soccer tournament. Brazil started on fire and managed to take the lead within a minute, but Ludmila finished too slowly.
The same Ludmila managed to score fifteen minutes later, but she was flagged for offside. The match was going back and forth without any big chances. Just before the break, Brazil came close to taking the lead again, but goalkeeper Nahar kept a good save from Gabby Bordillo’s shot.
Under the watch of Tom Cruise and Mikaela Shiffrin, Mallory Swanson gave the USA the lead before the hour mark after a beautiful vertical play.
That was the signal for the Brazil national coach to bring on star player Marta. But in his last international match, the 38-year-old couldn’t turn the tide either.
In fact, America had the most opportunities. They had more space to attack and Rodman missed after a good move. A minute later, Smith hit a shot.
Nahar had the final chord. In extra time he scored Adriana’s header just outside the goal area so the score was 0-1. The gold medal was the first win for the US women’s soccer team since 2019. This is already their 5th gold medal. Olympic Games.
Road to the Finals
The Olympic final in women’s football is sure to be an interesting match. Soccer nations Brazil and the United States have the gold medal at stake. Brazil defeated favorites Spain in the semi-finals, including a clumsy own goal by Spain. The U.S. is looking for a 5th Olympic title after defeating Germany.
