Outgoing Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo visited the Pukkelpop festival on Sunday afternoon. He had a great time, Belga news agency reported. “Pukkelpop is very well organised,” the prime minister said after a behind-the-scenes tour.

On Sunday, just like the other days of the festival near Hasselt, 60,000 people attended. De Croo watched Belgian indie rock band The Haunted Youth before taking a look backstage. “There’s always music and a great atmosphere here,” said the prime minister.

This wasn’t De Croo’s first visit to the festival. “When I was a student, I also did a holiday job at Pukkelpop,” he said. “We’re talking about the 90s and I’ve kept coming ever since. I’ve always had a special connection with Pukkelpop.”

The prime minister doesn’t see any major changes. “Maybe they’ve changed more than most. Of course, these festivals have evolved incredibly and become more professional. That’s what we Belgians are good at, we’re the best in the world at this.”

After the tour, De Croo stayed in Pukkelpop for a while. For example, he was spotted at a performance by American Mark Repellet.

De Croo remains Belgium’s prime minister. After elections in June, King Philippe resigned, but until a new government is formed, De Croo will remain head of a caretaker government with limited powers.
