Now it’s official too – Arthur Vermeeren on loan to Leipzig: ‘I’m really looking forward to it’

For the time being, there will be no continuation of the Atlético de Madrid chapter, which began with Arthur Vermeeren on Friday, January 26, 2024.

The talented midfielder was then transferred from Antwerp. There was nothing less than a 6.5-year contract ready in the Spanish capital.

But playing? The 19-year-old Vermeeren barely managed to do that. In La Liga, he played in 5 matches, which is equivalent to 160 minutes of football.

Shame on a great development. And Atletico now seem to realise that too. They are renting the Belgian to RB Leipzig for a year. Vermeeren goes there looking for minutes.

In this search he can use his fellow Red Devil Loïs Openda as a guide. He also finds a compatriot in Martin Vandevoordt to take his first steps in the club.

Leipzig will take over Vermeeren permanently once he has played a certain number of games. He will then be under contract in Germany until 2029. Vermeeren will wear the number 18 shirt.

“From now on I am a Red Bull,” Vermeeren said on Leipzig’s website. “I am very happy to be joining a club that has become one of the best in Europe in a very short time.”

“Leipzig has an excellent reputation in European football as a club for young players who can develop here at the highest level. Having Obenda and Vandevoordt will make the integration easier for me.”

“I am really looking forward to being on the pitch with the team starting tomorrow, learning from so many excellent players and ultimately ensuring we can deliver a very successful season,” he added.
