Environmental permit gives green light to new Club Brugge stadium | Jupiler Pro League

Flemish ministers Zohal Demir (Environment, N-VA) and Hilda Krevits (Economy, CD&V) have drawn a smile to everyone who cares about Club Brugge.

Ministers signed an environmental statement this afternoon, a very important decision for Club Brugge in the complex stadium file, which has been delayed for nearly 15 years.

After years of fruitless searching for other venues (with several proposals rejected due to a downpour of complaints), Club Brugge is now resolutely seeking a new 40,000-seater stadium in Olympiasite, with its current base at Jan Breidel Stadium. .

The environmental permit is necessary for building plans, but the decision of the relevant Flemish ministers does not mean that Club Brugge can start implementing it tomorrow.

This is because an appeal procedure is possible with the Permit Dispute Board. Parties are given 45 days to initiate this procedure.

If the council follows their positions, the permit may be rescinded and a new stalemate threatens. So the uncertainty hasn’t completely gone away.
