AA Gent will play the 1/8 final of the Belgian Cup tonight at Stade Lommel. Ghent has already had a very busy season, as he is still active on 3 fronts.
The competition, the Croky Cup and the Conference League: The inevitable question at a press conference is whether this program will not become so stressful.
Vanhaezebrouck’s answer appears to have generated quite a bit of controversy, as can be inferred from the statement circulated this afternoon.
“When I was asked yesterday if it would not be so difficult to continue in three competitions after the new year, I answered that we chose to try to stay active in three competitions and not like Antwerp: say they want to compete for the title because they did not choose other competitions,” Vanheisbrück begins his message.
“That was a wrong comment on my part. Of course Antwerp did not consciously choose to be eliminated in those other competitions.” Antwerp is already out of the cup and is also exhausted in Europe.
“For that I offer my apologies to my colleague Brian Brisky, his crew, and the group of players, but also to the Antwerp management and the fans.”
