The body of a 67-year-old Italian was found today after heavy rain dragged him and his 54-year-old wife to Scordia, Sicily, on Sunday. That reports the Italian news agency ANSA on the basis of firefighters. Still searching for a woman.




On Sunday, the couple managed to escape from a Ford Fiesta that got stuck in a mudslide near Catania, but was then swept away by surging waters. Today, the fire service said it carried out 580 rescue operations in Sicily and Calabria in the past 24 hours.

For Sicily, Calabria, Basilicata and Puglia, the warning level is still in effect today. In Catania, schools, parks and cemeteries will remain closed.

Antonio Sano, director of the meteorological service iLMeteo.it, reported today that the hurricane has ballooned into a hurricane, with winds exceeding 100 kilometers per hour. The bad weather is expected to continue until the end of the week.
