The boy and his sister, along with other family members, were attending a public fireworks display and were “about 50 meters from the starting point” next to the Cholet stadium when the accident occurred shortly after 11 pm. Seven of them were also injured: a man in his 30s was seriously injured and taken to hospital. Six other people were slightly injured, including the parents of the dead.
The court has not yet announced more details about the incident. An investigation has been opened into the premeditated murder. The local prosecutor says, among other things, that an investigation is underway into why the victims were so close to where the fireworks went off.
