A brawl after a youth game at KFC Damme in which two police officers were rendered incapacitated resulted in five players being sent off. Club president Philippe Babel said, “There is no place for such behavior in our association.”
The incident happened last Friday in an under-21 match against Jong Mali. When IB, a father of two on the court, disagreed with some refereeing decisions, the puppets started dancing. A spectator attempted to attack the referee and police reinforcements were requested. When the Bruges police arrived on the scene, the players and the man got into a skirmish with the police. Two of the inspectors became incapacitated for a while.
“The board of directors of the Kentucky Dam, condemns this unacceptable behavior and would like to extend a sincere apology to the police, the referee and Jung Mali,” said Philip Babel, the football club’s president. “So we accept the possible consequences of the association and we will take our responsibility in this.”
Everyone was shocked
And the club is already doing the latter: the fighters are kicked out, and their entourage is no longer welcome either. And the statement continued, “We have decided that there is no place for some players who have such attitudes, and therefore we excluded them from the federation.”

An open conversation with the entire group of players and the sports staff also showed that everyone was very shocked. “As a board, we will not allow the unacceptable behavior of some players and their entourage to diminish the sporting fun of the rest of the group,” says Papillon. “This behavior is completely out of line with the norms and values that we collectively stand for.”
Meanwhile, a police investigation is also underway, which means that criminal law consequences can be expected as well. “We have a social and educational role and we would like to give opportunities to young people to develop themselves through football,” says the Chairman of the Board. “Sportsmanship and respect are essential here, and there is no room for aggression.”
