Punch Powertrain in Sint-Truiden is in the interest of the car manufacturer Stellantis, a contraction of Tellantis, which in turn is a merger of the former French PSA group (Peugeot, Citroen, Opel) with the Italian-American merger group Fiat Chrysler (including Jeep and Dodge in the range). The potential buyer is no stranger to the Truien residents, as they already had a joint venture in the past.
Punch manufactures parts for the drive system of Stellantis hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The important parts for this purpose are developed and produced in Limburg.
Stellantis is particularly interested in the technology Punch uses for this purpose, and is therefore considering acquiring it. In this way, the automaker can take the lead in electrifying the car fleet.
Stellantis' takeover attempt is a hostile one, and is currently being fought in court. Unions are unhappy with the outcome “Who knows what the takeover will mean for the future of Punch Powertrain,” unions openly wonder. “This means a great deal of uncertainty for Punch Powertrain as an entity.” Wait and see…
