KRC Genk wants a replay against Anderlecht at the end of 2023 again. The Belgian Football Association's disciplinary board will consider the case on Tuesday.
KRC Genk could have taken a penalty again in that game, but it was incorrectly allowed. For this reason, Limburg wants the match to be replayed. Anderlecht clearly doesn't want that, so both lawyers are members of the disciplinary board. Referee Nathan Verboomen and VAR Jan Boterberg are also present.
Referee Verbomen told his story: “From my position I decided that no player had entered the penalty area early. So I allowed the goal,” quoted by Het Nieuwsblad.
“Then there was contact with VAR Jan Boterberg, who said that Yira Sor van Genk was in the penalty area too early. And then I gave an indirect free kick to Anderlecht, as the regulations state. If VAR said that, 'then it's true.' This is a real-life situation,” concludes Verboemen.
Afterwards, VAR Jan Boterberg also spoke. He said, according to the newspaper: “When evaluating the penalty kick, I only looked at the Genk Sur player. I focused only on him.” For example, Potterberg admits that Anderlecht players were not taken into account.
