“Then the three of us were sitting there. I think they’d rather ride behind me than jump. That in itself is smart.”
Van Aert hesitated for a while and continued to rest for a while. “My radio didn’t work, I couldn’t communicate with the support wagon. I didn’t know if there was still a race behind us.”
“When the second support car arrived, I knew there was control in the peloton and lowered myself wisely.”

Then the problem started with a double fall. “We were told there was another protest. It seems normal for something like this to happen.”
“It was said we might come to a stop and that caused a mess. There was a lot of braking and Stephen (Kruesvik) reacted very late. I just managed to avoid a fall.”
“When I came back, I saw the team at Jonas (Vingegaard) after his fall. It didn’t look too bad for him, Tiesj (Benoot) was even more difficult.”
After those frantic kilometers, there was finally a fast sprint. “Jasper surprised me in the inner corner. He did it so cleverly and forcefully. I can no longer count it again.”
