An issue has emerged in Windows that could allow a hacker to execute code on a nearby computer without any interaction from the victim.
The problem lies with the WiFi network adapter and the code has been identified as a vulnerability CVE-2024-30078 for along way. It was discovered and is being discovered by the Chinese cybernetic Kunlun Certain By Microsoft.
The WiFi vulnerability is dangerous for several reasons. For example, a hacker needs to be in physical proximity to a device to exploit the vulnerability and execute code remotely. It appears that the perpetrator should not be connected to the same network as the victim, although this is not explicitly stated.
In addition, no interaction is necessary. If a perpetrator wants to execute code on a victim’s computer, he or she should not click a link, open a file, or download it. Simply sitting near a hacker with a working device is enough to be vulnerable to attack.
Finally, the technology works on almost all versions of Windows and Windows Server.
To resolve the issue, a fix for the issue is included in the latest Windows Patch Tuesday update. Anyone who does not install it automatically is advised to do so as soon as possible.
