The fire brigade had to back up a home in Koquelar on Wednesday night after a woman wanted to stop her car in the driveway, but may have mispedaled or made the wrong maneuver. The car spun forward and hit the front of her house. The damage is great.
The accident occurred on Wednesday evening at 9.10pm at Moerewegel in Koekelare. The driver of a Jaguar I-Pace came home and wanted to park in her driveway. What happened next is not entirely clear, but the woman may have made the wrong move and misplaced the pedal. The car suddenly sped forward and passed through a small front yard with two low hedges. Then the car crashed into the front of her house. The damage was immediate. There was a hole in the front and the window was completely hung. The woman was not injured in the explosion, and there were no injuries in the house either. The fire department was called to come and support the facade. By the time the fire brigade arrived, the damaged Jaguar had already backed up on the driveway. The heavy car was probably still drivable enough to get it off the front.

“When we arrived, the car was already back in the driveway,” says Fire Captain Dries Depreitere of the Koekelare Center. “We saw that it was an electric model. That is why we immediately checked whether there was a fire hazard and whether smoke was coming from the smashed hood. It seemed that this was not the case. We immediately disconnected the main connector connected to the battery so that no problems would arise there. This battery may not be in the front of the car, but you never know. Then we cleaned up the bricks in the house. The car crashed into the front wall at the window and right next to the front door. Behind it was a transverse wall separating the living room from the hall. It was pretty much destroyed and we had more Collapsing so we could support the whole building. Then we closed the facade again.” The jaguar was pulled over and the police made the necessary decisions.
