Mine energyOcta+ will offer a dynamic power tariff from May 3. This makes her the second player, after Angie, to actively promote this contract formula. The price you pay follows developments in the wholesale markets hour by hour, thus inviting you to adjust your energy consumption with those hourly prices. It seems like a chore. Fortunately, there are solutions that make it possible to automatically respond to price fluctuation without much effort, you know Mijnenergie.be.

energy future
Jean-François Letraublon, Octa + spokesperson, believes that the dynamic tariff will gain an important place in the energy landscape. “We will more explicitly use electric cars and heat pumps in the future. With a dynamic rate, you can find out hourly rates for the next day and use these devices when prices are the lowest.”
According to the spokesperson, the big difference with the variable rate lies in the billing. “With a classic variable price, the supplier multiplies your total consumption volume for the month by the average of the quotes for the same month. The dynamic price is not based on averages, but on hourly quotes.

There is no risk premium
Because hourly rates are closer to reality than a variable or fixed contract, the risk of the supplier buying too much energy at too high a price is also reduced. “We don’t have to charge a risk premium, as is calculated in other contract formulas. This makes dynamic price an interesting price equation, provided you adjust your consumption with hourly rates.”
Octa+ refers to the intelligent control software offered by, among others, the subsidiary OMES. The smart app ensures that devices are automatically activated at low hourly rates and that, for example, peak consumption does not exceed a certain threshold. This way, the customer does not have to constantly monitor hourly rates in order to pay less. Octa+ publishes these hourly rates daily, shortly after noon. Next, it also wants to send push messages and display hourly concrete consumption costs in its customers’ environment.

For the Octa+ dynamic rate, the customer must have a digital meter and billing is done via monthly account statements. In addition to Engie and Octa +, Mega, Bolt and Eneco also offer a dynamic power tariff, albeit only on demand. Luminus and TotalEnergies indicate that they will be rolling out the solution soon. A month and a half ago, Angie had about five hundred clients at a dynamic rate.
