For the women, Puck Pieterse and Shirin van Anrooij have had a break after a very short time in the field, with Fem van Empel following suit as announced.
The Dutch world champion also enjoys her road and mountain bikes during the year and wants to catch her breath.
“After the European Championships, we will skip the two weekends completely,” sporting director Jan Boven told Weilerfleets.
The world champions will not receive Niel (Superprestige on November 11), Dendermonde (World Cup on November 12), Merksplas (Superprestige on November 18) and Troyes (World Cup on November 19).
Van Empel usually picks up the thread again on November 25 at the X²O-cross in Kortrijk. With these picks, Van Empel appears to have dropped the SP and WB ratings.
“Regarding the World Cup and Superprestige, we were sure in advance that they would not be completely successful. But the X²O Cup should go well in terms of planning,” said Boven.
“It is wise to take a short break after the European Championships. Fem actually went on the road for a while and then immediately moved to cross-country. But our ambitions are bigger than just cyclo-cross.”
“After the cross season, you will still be on the road for a while, and mountain biking will also be available later. So we have to keep thinking and slow down at the right times.”
