Iran and US have a prisoner exchange deal. This was reported by the Iranian news agency Noor News on Monday. An Iranian-American was granted permission to leave Iran, it was announced Saturday. Under the deal, four Iranians will be exchanged for four Americans, Noor News reported.

Iranian-American Baquer Namazi, 85, has been allowed to leave Iran, while his son, who has been in prison for seven years, “is at home with his parents in Tehran,” according to the United Nations. According to the news agency, Namasi’s release had nothing to do with the transfer announced on Monday.

At least two Americans are currently being held in Iran, Emad Sharqi and Morad Tahbas. The latter is a British citizen and was jailed in January 2018 before being released on parole since July. Sharkey is an investor who was sentenced in January 2021 to 10 years in prison for espionage.

The deal also “includes the release of Iranian currency in South Korea,” Noor News said, although Washington has previously denied that the two files were linked.
