Sirens sound in large parts of Ukraine tonight. According to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, air defense is active in Kiev. At least one person was killed in a Russian air strike on the Ukrainian capital. Local authorities said this morning that at least three others were injured.
Klitschko said a 41-year-old man was killed after debris from a drone landed on a gas station. “The anti-aircraft systems have already shot down more than 20 drones en route to Kiev,” he wrote on Telegram. But a new wave of drones is on its way to the capital. Stay in shelters.”
Authorities said that a seven-story non-residential building and a nine-story building caught fire in different parts of the city after debris from drones fell on them.
The army said that at least three people were wounded in the Russian attack on the city.
Thanks allies
Ukraine’s President, Volodymyr Zelensky, on Saturday night, in his daily video message from Kiev, thanked allies Germany, Finland, Canada and Iceland for the latest arms shipments. He said the assistance will help improve air defenses and strengthen overall defense capabilities against Russian terrorism.
Penalties
Zelensky also announced tougher sanctions against Russia. It added 220 companies and 51 individuals to the list of “those working for terrorism”. In most cases, these are arms companies with ties to Russian companies, according to Zelensky. It was said that not all of them would work on Russian soil, but they would all be subject to international pressure.
Finally, the Ukrainian president also thanked Japan, which also issued a new package of sanctions against Russia this week.
