By defeating Elise Mertens in the previous round, he deprived her of a showdown with her former doubles partner Arina Sabalenka.
Van Uytvanck proved her excellent form on the grass against the Belarusian, ranked 6th in the world, by signing in the first half. But due to two replays, the first group went to Sabalenka.
In the second set, Van Uytvanck quickly went out to 0-3, a lead she did not concede. By the third set, both players’ service was already doing well, so there were no breaks until the tiebreak.
In that tiebreak, Sabalenka quickly took a 4-0 lead, a gap Van Uytvanck managed to narrow, but no longer close.
“I think I played a good game. It’s a shame you narrowly lost the last set. However, I can’t blame myself for that. My attitude and level of play was good. It led to some good chances to score from the shot, but I came across an excellent opponent” .
