Several cases of salmonella have been reported in Europe for several weeks, linked to contamination at the Ferrero factory in Arlon. The FASFC, the National Reference Laboratory for Salmonella in Sciensano and Communities (Agency Care & Health, Aviq and GGC Brussels) has since conducted an investigation into a possible Salmonella-associated infection in Belgium. Based on detailed DNA analyzes of different stool samples from Belgian patients, 29 cases can currently be linked to salmonella outbreaks.
In addition to the 29 cases in which a link with salmonella outbreaks has already been found, an additional 20 cases of salmonella from recent months are currently considered suspicious in our country. Comprehensive genetic analyzes should now provide a definitive answer as to whether these cases are effectively linked to Ferrero in Arlon.
Meanwhile, infections have been reported in eight European countries and the United Kingdom. Already 150 cases can be confirmed by stool analysis and patient surveys.
Investigation into the Arlon plant and the possible cause of salmonella infection continues. Already last week, FASFC decided to withdraw the license to the factory in Arlon and to recall all Kinder Gamma products produced there from the consumer.
