US President Joe Biden and top officials are doing everything they can to prevent Israel from launching a large-scale attack on Hezbollah. The US government fears that the Iranian-backed Lebanese organization could become embroiled in a war between Israel and Hamas.
Sources said the Americans made clear to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government behind closed doors this week that it would be “difficult to fight both Hamas in the south and Hezbollah, which is much stronger in the north.” The New York Times.
US fears “Israel could be fighting a two-front war”. “Both the United States and Iran are engaging in such a conflict” and Biden wants to prevent it.
Israel strikes Hezbollah targets
Since the start of the war between Hamas and Israel two weeks ago, there has been much unrest along the border between Lebanon and Israel. During the night between Friday and Saturday, Israel announced that it had struck Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.
About 20,000 people living in the Israeli town of Kiryat Shmona, about 2 kilometers from the border with Lebanon, were asked to leave on Friday because of border unrest.
