A 50-year-old Ostend resident is on trial in a Bruges court on charges of computer fraud. A.A. committed fraud with the fuel card of the designated company he worked for.
Ostend discovered the tampering in the spring of 2021. One of their employees had a car and the fuel card associated with it. He could have refueled with CNG at one of the company’s pumps, but on some invoices, the employer specified that gasoline and diesel were also refueled using the fuel card. And that too during the weekend. “The defendant appeared to be refueling for his own use, but he also allowed third parties to use his fuel card,” the civil party’s attorney said.
According to the allocator, AA misused his fuel card at least 39 times between 1 January 2020 and 30 April 2021. He is alleged to have wrongly spent €2,383. The Public Prosecution did not demand any concrete punishment for the Ostend resident, who still has a clean criminal record. The defense asked for the sentence to be suspended. “My client acknowledges the facts, but says he used his fuel card a maximum of 10 times over the weekend,” said Professor Stijn Lilliart. AA no longer works for the company in question. Sentencing on January 5
