“You have to listen to yourself and stop at the right time,” is how Eden Hazard opened his announcement of his retirement from football. Before a charity match in Calais, where he made his last public appearance on a football pitch, Hazard said he wanted to get the most out of life. “What am I going to do? Cycling, playing golf, traveling…things I haven’t been able to do yet because of football. This made the choice to quit smoking easier. It’s really early, but I’ve thought about it carefully. Of course I’ll miss football.”

Hazard puts his money where his mouth is and goes playing golf in Madrid. The city where he still lives with his wife Natasha and five children.
The Hazard family feel at home in the Spanish capital, and 10-year-old Leo Hazard is also playing for Real Madrid’s youth team. Since Eden Hazard’s contract with Real Madrid was terminated, the former striker has already indicated that there is a real chance of him continuing to live in Spain.
In three weeks’ time, there will be a party at Hazards, because the former Red Devil will turn 33.
