With two black dots and a white T-shirt with the inscription “But Dad Loved It,” she looked super cute, but make no mistake: Anne-Marie is no cat to handle without gloves. She made this clear several times during her Pukkelpop show, which she described as “the best festival in the world”. “Without psychopaths like you and me the world would be so boring,” she said before starting the hit “Psycho”. Or later: “Almost all of my songs are about bad friends.” Judging by the reactions in the audience, a phenomenon that many have already had to deal with.
It wasn’t a boring Saturday at Kiewit, though the Anne-Marie collection could have had some sharp edges and “corners” for someone who calls himself “Psycho.” By the way, would you describe every festival you appear on the bill as “the best ever”? Anyway: all the beats – and there are more than you might have thought when you first heard them – were loud thunders. From the groovy “2002” nostalgia to the new single “Unhealthy” and the closing track “FRIENDS,” with lyrics that are very helpful if you want to “friendzone” someone. The highlight was “Rockabye”, which was sung loudly as soon as the first note was played.
