After 16 years and 7 months as youth academy director, Jan Kindermans has had his advance notice.
As one of the few, he had survived Anderlecht’s “nouveau” reforms under Mark Cook, but – countless reforms later – he still had to believe it.
The Kindermans’ heavy contract, among other things, is said to be the basis for the departure. Anderlecht still live in financially troubled waters, as he has signaled to high earner Hendrik van Krombrueg that he has to leave.
Kindermans is an icon of Anderlecht, Pur sang. If lab technicians compare club DNA and Kindermans’ DNA, a perfect match will be seen even under a microscope.
Kindermans has ensured that Anderlecht’s training has grown to the world’s top for more than a decade. Anderlecht have put up a whole laundry list of talent under his leadership.
Showing examples such as Vincent Kompany, Romelu Lukaku and Youri Tielemans always made visits to the Kindermans office in their youth.
His motto was this: a young player has a better chance of success if he gets his degree, has cool parents and signs his first contract without an agent.
A success formula that has also worked for Dendoncker, Faes, Bornauw, Doku, Saelemaekers, Sambi Lokonga, Lukebakio, and Praet, among others. It is not for nothing that Anderlecht’s motto is “In the youth we trust”.
Anderlecht will be able to live in the Kindermans business for a while. With Verschaeren, Amuzu, Debast, Kana and Delcroix, she already has strong youth values in the squad and there are still promising players like Duranville, Stroykens, El Hadj and Stassin in the pipeline.
It is likely that Kindermans will continue to operate in Neerpede after its termination. Further cooperation would be possible under different circumstances.
