At Apple, the man responsible for cloud initiatives like iCloud is gone. This was reported by Bloomberg news agency, which has learned from insiders that Michael Abbott will be leaving in April. He joined a growing list of executives who left the Cupertino-based iPhone company late last year and early this year.
As Apple’s vice president of cloud engineering, Abbott has been instrumental in services like iMessage and FaceTime. Responsibilities will reportedly be taken over by Jeff Rubin, who previously worked on iTunes and is a big name within the company. Apple declined to comment to Bloomberg.
Peter Stern actually left Apple in January. Like Abbott, he was known to be a lieutenant to Chief of Services Eddie Keogh. Stern led the division responsible for Apple TV+ and Apple News subscriptions, among other things. Stern had also previously been seen as a possible successor to Cue.
Apple also recently lost managers who dealt, for example, with the web store, information systems and industrial design. Sometimes Apple could not immediately find a successor, which forced it to change its organization somewhat. For example, no new heads of privacy and design were appointed and those responsibilities were divided among the remaining executives.
