Another person dead in US hurricane – Mega storm continues devastation | Abroad

A devastating storm, along with several tornadoes, has again claimed lives in the United States. Tornado winds in Missouri have left many dead and injured. More than 85 million Americans will experience severe weather today.

In Bollinger County in the US state of Missouri, several people were killed and injured, according to local officials, but exact numbers are not yet available. The search for the victims seems to be ongoing.

The storm system that has been ravaging the US since last week has stretched from the northern US over Michigan and New York states, south to Texas.

The storm has already wreaked havoc in parts of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Michigan, and at least nine tornadoes were reported Tuesday, two in Iowa and seven in Illinois. At least 32 people have been killed and several buildings damaged in recent days. Several trucks were swept away on the highway. Hail balls up to four inches in size hit parts of Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Michigan.

New warnings

Several severe storms are forecast for eastern Illinois and Michigan today, possibly with new tornadoes and severe hail. Cities like Chicago (Illinois) and Detroit (Michigan) could also be hit hard. A “large and very dangerous tornado” warning is in place for the state of Arkansas today, the weather service reports. Parts of Arkansas were already hard hit by the storm last week. The Storm Prediction Center also warned of strong winds, hail and tornadoes in Oklahoma and Texas.

The weather service says “the weather in these areas can be life-threatening at times” and urges residents in affected areas to closely monitor local weather reports for “advisories and warnings.”

Blizzards

A lot of snow is expected in the northern Rocky Mountains, North and South Dakota, and Minnesota. The National Weather Service has warned that more than 20 inches of rain is possible today. Blizzards are making it dangerous on the road and the state of North Dakota is asking people to stay off the road due to very low visibility. “If you don’t have to drive, stay off the road. This is dangerous for you and emergency services. If you get stuck, emergency services may not be able to reach you,” the transport service tweeted.
