Mark van Bommel will not be Antwerp coach next season. A striking name is now being mentioned as a possible successor.
Antwerp will continue its season in the upcoming matches. After a 2-1 defeat to Cercle Brugge, the Great Old club were no longer able to finish fourth in the competition.
A lot will change within the club. Coach Mark van Bommel will leave the club after two years of service. He helped Antwerp win the cup and title last season.
The Dutch coach also confirmed that the Champions League football came to Boswell Stadium for the first time. But now the club will have to look for a worthy replacement.
Antwerp could have ended up with a catchy name for that. According to transfer expert Sascha Tavoleri, Alex Pastore is in the picture to become Van Bommel’s successor.
Pastor is currently coaching Almere City in the Dutch League. The club is in 13th place. According to Tavoleri, Antwerp believes he fits into the club’s new philosophy.
Given the financial situation, Antwerp will have to make do with limited resources. There will be more focus on our youth and young talent.
